No post, just some notes.
Sept 18
ctDNA test results just came back negative. So that’s four different tests now (ctDNA, CEA, tissue sample, and PET scan) that all say I’m cancer free.

Surgery tomorrow will reverse my ostomy, and address all the prolapse issues.
Thank you for all of your prayers, love and support. Technically it’s not over until I can say I’ve been cancer free for 5 years, but this is a very happy step on that journey.

Surgery went well. Sore but happy!
Guess what? The surgical oncologist who was on hand with my GI surgeon saw the enlarged node from my PET scan (the one we’ve been shrinking with chemo) plus a second abnormal node discovered during surgery, and had her remove both! I always hoped they could just cut it out but it was always considered unresectable because it was still on the artery. She said it was a sphincter tightening
moment but got it out ok! That was an incredibly happy surprise.
The pain is a little rough but so worth it. Feels like a new start. Thanks everyone for all the love and support, it really makes a difference.
Sept 22
Unexpected surprise… first of all the surgeon wasn’t really planning to cut the node out, let alone 3 (I thought she said 2 yesterday but I guess I heard wrong) …because it was sitting right on a main artery. But with the encouragement of the surgical oncoloist, she took them out and sent them to pathology.
All three just came back as benign, even the one we’ve been trying to shrink since March.
It feels better having it gone, even though it was already deemed non-cancerous on the pet scan.
They plan to send me home today. Not feeling completely ready, because pain is a challenge and my repaired system is struggling to wake up and do its job.
